Giacomo Perini's bronze medal in the
PR1 men's single sculls at the Paralympics was suspended on
Sunday because he had forgotten his cell phone in a bag on the
boat.
Regulations provide for athletes not to carry electronic devices
on board even if they are not used.
The Italian federation is preparing to appeal the decision.
Perini had arrived third but the jury decided to disqualify him
after the race with the bronze going to Australia's Erik Horrie.
The 28-year-old had conquered an historic bronze medal for Italy
at the Paralympics after leading most of the competition, only
giving in at the end with Britain's Bejamin Pritchard winning
gold and Ukraine's Roman Polianskyi silver.
