The EU Commission has formalised
its preliminary findings on the project to acquire joint control
of Ita with Lufthansa and the Italian Ministry of Economy. The
fear is that the merge will result in higher prices for
customers and lower service quality. In detail, it states that
it may reduce competition on a number of short-haul routes
connecting Italy to central European countries, as well as on
some long-haul routes between Italy and the United States,
Canada, and Japan. Alternatively, it might create or strengthen
Ita's dominant position at Milan-Linate Airport.
