The special immigration unit of Rome's tribunal has not validated the detention of at least four migrants held at a newly opened Italian hosting and repatriation centre in Gjader, Albania, judicial sources said on Friday. "The two countries of provenance of the migrants, Bangladesh and Egypt, are not safe,", said one of the judges in charge of the case in a decision rejecting the detention of one of the migrants.
According to the judges, the migrants must be taken back to Italy. Rome's central police department on October 17 had ordered the detention in Albania of a total of 16 people including 10 citizens of Bangladesh and six Egyptian nationals in Albania. Four, including two minors and two vulnerable men, were later deemed unsuitable to stay after being identified and undergoing health screenings in Albania. The migrants were taken to the newly opened detention centre by the Italian navy vessel Libra on Wednesday to undergo accelerated border procedures as part of a new scheme promoted by the government.
Meloni, from the judges of Rome a prejudicial decision
++ ROME 'It is very difficult to work and try to give answers to this nation when you also have the opposition of part of the institutions that should help give answers'. This was said by Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni at a press point in Beirut, describing as 'prejudicial' the Rome judges' decision on migrants in Albania.
Meloni, I will find the solution on migrants in Albania 'With judges' decision you cannot do border defence'
ROME 'The issue is not Albania, the issue is much broader. Basically the judges say that there are no safe countries. So I officially communicate that the problem is not in Albania, the problem is that no one will be able to be repatriated, you can't reject people, you can't do any border defence policy.' Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni said this at a press point in Beirut, commenting on the Rome court's decision on migrants in Albania. 'I hope I will also be told how to solve it, how to manage public order, who will pay for the billions we will have to take in,' she added. 'I hope I will also be told the solutions. I hope solutions will also be found for me, because I am the one who has to find solutions. And indeed I will also find a solution to this problem'.
