"After so many years, the enlargement of the European Union has become part of the Brussels agenda again and above all a real strategic priority for the European Union, following the Russian aggression against Ukraine. So there is a new momentum regarding enlargement, a lot of progress has also been made in the Balkans. The point now is to encourage these countries to take full advantage of it, especially Serbia, which should open cluster 3 of the negotiations'. Italian Ambassador to Belgrade Luca Gori told ANSA on the sidelines of the Ambassadors' Conference, adding that 'this European perspective is becoming a key element not only for the region but also for the European security architecture and Italy is among the countries most convinced in pushing in this direction'.
Ambassador Gori stressed that "the relationship with Serbia and the Balkans is truly central to our foreign policy strategy. We are working for a bilateral summit after more than 10 years with Serbia for the end of January and that will be a moment where we would like to catalyse all the projects, the programmes that we have at 360 degrees with Serbia, from agriculture to trade, economic development to customs cooperation. In short, we will work at 360 degrees to make this a moment of further relaunching relations between Italy and Serbia, which are already at an excellent level both from the point of view of political dialogue and economic and trade interchange'.
