"Japan is Italy's strategic partner of excellence in the Indo-Pacific, because of tradition, common values and because we are two strong countries in the G7 and the G20 with very similar policies and objectives". This was stated by Ambassador to Tokyo Gianluigi Benedetti speaking to ANSA on the sidelines of the Ambassadors' Conference.
Benedetti recalled that "thanks to the Meloni-Kishida initiative from January 2023 we have a strategic partnership, strengthened with an action plan approved on the sidelines of the G7 in Puglia, so we have a road map up to 2027 that covers the various activities in 360 degrees: strengthening strategic diplomatic dialogue on military security, industrial collaboration, security and economic resilience, trade. On all these issues the coming years, especially in view of Expo Osaka, will engage us even more, with initiatives already indicated in the road map,' he added.
The 2025 Expo 'will be a great showcase for Italy from a cultural, scientific and technological point of view, but it must also be an opportunity to create new collaborations'. For Benedetti, 'the medium to long term goal is to arrive at a very articulate strategic relationship that allows us to bring together industrial and technological strengths. Not only to achieve such an important economic security in the supply chains, but also to maintain a technological level that allows us to continue to have the advantage in exports'.
