The conference held on Saturday 14 December at the Gulbenkian Foundation in Lisbon by Donato Salvatore, Professor of Art History at the University of Salerno, was a great success with the public. Organised by the Italian Embassy in Portugal, the conference was entitled 'Of Light and Colour: The Century of Venice, from Canaletto to Guardi' and was dedicated to the techniques and artistic developments of 18th century Venetian Vedutism. The event was part of the exhibition 'Venezia in festa. From Canaletto to Guardi', which until 13 January next, in collaboration with the Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum in Madrid, is displaying masterpieces by Canaletto and Francesco Guardi, as well as Bernardo Bellotto, Giambattista Tiepolo, Pietro Longhi and the Dutchman Caspar von Wittel in the main gallery of the Gulbenkian Foundation.
