Two years after the opening of its South American office in Bogotà, the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation (AICS) took stock of what has been achieved so far, detailing some of its most important projects and highlighting a series of ongoing initiatives in which the focus is on women.
The presentation took place during an event entitled 'A society without violence against women and children. The commitment of Italian cooperation in Colombia', which took place at the headquarters of the Italian Institute of Culture in Bogotà in the presence of, among others, the Italian Ambassador to Colombia, Giancarlo Maria Curcio, and the regional director of AICS, Mario Beccia.
AICS has been particularly involved in the 'Almas' project, which promotes the entrepreneurial development of around 800 Venezuelan women in northern Colombia.
The Italian agency has also collaborated with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees to take care of 1,479 repatriated Venezuelan and Colombian women and girls, victims of gender-based violence, through financial support for their health care and protection.
Another project in this direction is 'Pace Buena', which is being implemented in the municipality of Buenaventura and focuses on the construction of the Women's House, as well as the creation of two multi-modal centres to serve approximately 350 women victims of armed conflict and gender-based violence.
