The impressive Odd Fellow Palaet in Copenhagen yesterday hosted the Christmas Concert in honour of Giacomo Puccini, on the occasion of the centenary of the Italian Residence in Fredericiagade 2 and the centenary of the death of the famous Italian composer.
The Italian Residence, inaugurated in 1924, has for a century been a tangible symbol of the cultural and diplomatic ties between the two countries, united by a long tradition of collaboration and mutual esteem. Yesterday's event was therefore a significant moment to pay homage to the city of Copenhagen, celebrate the close friendship between Italy and Denmark, and share a high-level artistic experience with the local and international community, looking at strengthening the genuine cultural ties between Italy and Denmark so that they continue to grow and prosper, consolidating a common legacy of dialogue and cooperation.
The star of the evening was internationally renowned soprano Erika Grimaldi, accompanied by Maestro Diego Mingolla. The carefully selected musical programme, with some of the most famous pieces from Puccini's operas, was warmly welcomed and appreciated by the audience, which in Denmark always follows Italian opera with passion and interest.
