The Italian Ambassador to Tunisia, Alessandro Prunas, opened the 9th edition of the Week of Italian Cuisine in the World by inaugurating the 'Aperitivo Italiano' event at the Italian Cultural Institute in Tunis.
"Italy and Tunisia share a heritage of products and gastronomic traditions linked to conviviality, health, and the well-being of the diet, while respecting natural resources and local customs," said Prunas, emphasising the desire to work side by side with Tunisia to promote the Mediterranean diet - now an intangible cultural heritage of Unesco - by focusing on people's well-being and health, with quality products and high food safety standards, also thanks to a skilful use of technical and technological innovations in the sector.
The Week of Italian Cuisine in the World is an initiative promoted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation that sees all the institutions of the Italian System united to promote, this year in particular, the 'Mediterranean Diet and Roots Cuisine: Health and Tradition'.
In Tunisia, the programme of events devised by the Italian Embassy in Tunis, in collaboration with the Italian Cultural Institute of Tunis, the local Ice Agency, the Italian-Tunisian Chamber of Commerce Ctici, Comites Tunisia, and the Delegations of the Italian Academy of Cuisine in Tunis and Hammamet , Slow Food Messina, Slow Food Alliance of Chefs and local partners, is proposing a journey to rediscover the traditions and common roots that have marked the history of the two countries and still today inextricably link their respective cuisines.
