On the occasion of the Conference of the Parties to the Palermo Convention (United Nations Convention against Transnational Organised Crime), Italy promoted an exhibition at the UN headquarters in Vienna that illustrates our country's experience in the fight against transnational organised crime, produced by the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, the Interior and Justice. This was made known by the Farnesina itself, emphasising that through a "path of evocative images, the exhibition illustrates some crucial stages in the fight against the Mafia, the role of magistrates Flacone and Borsellino, the reaction to the 1992 massacres, the path that led to the adoption of the Palermo Convention, international cooperation activities and future challenges".
Inaugurated by the Minister of Justice Carlo Nordio and the Executive Director of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), the exhibition also marks the beginning of a month of "mobilisation in view of the first International Day against Transnational Organised Crime (15 November), established this year, on an Italian initiative, by a General Assembly resolution".
