The Consulate General of Italy in Chongqing announces the opening of the photographic exhibition 'Marco Polo and his places', which will be held at the Fulong Temple in the Dujiangyan Scenic Area. The exhibition, which opened on 17 October, is organised in cooperation with the municipal government of Dujiangyan and is the third stage of an exhibition that has been very successful in the cities of Kunming and Chengdu.
The photographic exhibition, comprising 35 images provided by ANSA Agency, takes visitors on a fascinating journey through the places and experiences of Marco Polo, the iconic Venetian explorer who in the 13th century opened up new routes between East and West. The photographs, a combination of historical illustrations and contemporary images, highlight the most significant places of his journey, offering a comprehensive overview of the cultural and historical impact that his feat continues to have on modern society.
During the opening ceremony, Consul General Fabio Schina emphasised Marco Polo's legacy: 'Marco Polo's journey and the Milione, which vividly recount his experiences, played a fundamental role in broadening perspectives and fostering deeper understanding between different cultures. Today, Marco Polo's legacy and the importance of knowledge and open dialogue are more crucial than ever to addressing global issues and building a more interconnected and harmonious world'.
The vice mayor of Dujiangyan, Zhu Wei, emphasised the importance of the event: 'This exhibition in Dujiangyan not only celebrates the figure of Marco Polo, but also represents a valuable opportunity to strengthen cultural exchanges and cooperation between China and Italy, helping to write a new chapter in relations between the two countries.
The exhibition can be visited every day from 9 a.m. to 5.30 p.m. and will remain open to the public until 24 October.
