"The signing today of this MoU involving the six Algerian, Italian Austrian, and German companies in the green hydrogen project from Algeria to Europe is very important. The project commits all the companies within two years to complete an exhaustive feasibility study that will demonstrate the economic, technical and industrial viability of this very important project that will be of great use to European countries to reduce their Co2 footprint and thus achieve the objectives of Cop 19'.
This was stated to ANSA by Alberto Cutillo, Italy's ambassador to Algeria, on the sidelines of the 12th edition of Napec, the North African and Mediterranean energy and hydrogen fair, being held in Oran, in the west of the country.
"Algeria is convinced of this opportunity and it seems to me that Italy has also given the same signal," the Italian diplomat further emphasised.
For Ambassador Cutillo, this project binds even more the economies of the two countries, especially the energy sectors, which already historically since the creation of the Enrico Mattei gas pipeline more than 40 years ago, constitute a very strong partnership."
"I remember that Italy is Algeria's first customer in terms of gas supplies, so it is a very important partnership for us as it is for the Algerians," he concluded.
It is worth noting that the Italian companies Snam and Sea Corridor, Sonatrach and Sonelgaz (Algeria), Vng (Germany) and Verbund Green Hydrogen (Austria) signed a memorandum of understanding yesterday in Oran, to jointly carry out the necessary studies to assess the feasibility and profitability of an integrated green hydrogen production project in Algeria to supply the European market through the 'SoutH2 Corridor'.
