Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani said
he would meet Syrian leader Ahmed Hussein al-Sharaa, also known
by his nom de guerre Abu Mohammad al-Julani, on a visit to
Damascus Friday where his goal would be to try to work towards
achieving Syrian stability.
"After the Quint meeting (in Rome Thursday evening), I will go
to Damascus for a series of meetings, with the new leader Jolani
but also with the Foreign Minister, civil society, Christians",
said Tajani before the Quint meeting on Syria in Rome,
underlining that he will also visit the Damascus Mosque.
"The objective is to have a stable Syria, territorial unity and
for everyone to be recognized as citizens with equal rights and
duties", added the minister, according to whom "the first
messages from Damascus are positive, that is why I will be there
to encourage a new phase that serves to stabilize the internal
situation".
