Four people were barred from 'red
zones' in Milan on Tuesday, a day after the interior ministry
announced that the safety measure would be set up in major
cities and would be running in Milan from New Year's Eve until
March 31.
According to central police department sources, two individuals
were apprehended in the city centre while two others were barred
from the area of the central station.
Police are also evaluating the case of a 25-year-old Moroccan
citizen who was caught overnight while he was allegedly trying
to steal 200 euros from a stall at a Christmas market in the
Duomo square while the immigration office is probing his case,
investigative sources said.
On Monday, the Viminale said Minister Matteo Piantedosi had sent
a directive to prefects to underline the importance of
identifying, with specific ordinances, urban areas where the
presence of dangerous individuals or those with criminal records
can be banned and their removal can be ordered.
The Viminale indicated, also in view of New Year's Eve, the
measures for railway stations and surrounding areas, but also
drug dealing areas and other urban areas, such as nightlife
areas, characterized by a high concentration of people.
The measure has also been applied in Florence, Bologna and
Naples.
