Defence Minister Guido Crosetto said
Friday Italy is working for Cecilia Sala, an Italian journalist
held in Tehran's Evin Prison on unknown charges, and Italian
authorities are exploring all avenues to secure her release.
"Since day one, when the news of the unacceptable arrest of
Cecilia Sala by the Iranian authorities arrived, the entire
government, first and foremost President Giorgia Meloni and
(Foreign) Minister (Antonio) Tajani, has moved to have her
freed," he said on X.
"Every person who could and can be useful to achieve this goal
has set to work.
"The negotiations with Iran are not resolved, unfortunately,
with the involvement of Western public opinion and with the
strength of popular indignation but only with high-level
political and diplomatic action.
"Italy is working incessantly to free her, following every
avenue".
