A nun was among 25 people arrested on
Thursday in a police operation targetting a branch of the
Calabria-based 'Ndrangheta in the province of Brescia.
A number of local politicians were also arrested in the
investigation into "extortion, arms and drugs trafficking,
usury, tax felonies, money laundering" and alleged exchanges of
favours between organized crime and the political world.
The arrested nun, who has been put under house arrest, is
accused of external involvement in mafia association.
She allegedly helped the mafia gang get information to and from
its members in prison.
