A meeting of Group of Seven foreign
ministers chaired by Italy on Tuesday said the G7 would respect
its international obligations with regard to arrest warrants
issued by the International Criminal Court for alleged war
crimes in Gaza against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin
Netanyahu, his former defence minister Yoav Galland, as well as
a Hamas leader for the October 7, 2023 attacks on Israel.
"In exercising its right to defend itself, Israel must fully
respect its obligations under international law in all
circumstances, including international humanitarian law," said
the final declaration of the G7 Foreign Affairs in Fiuggi south
of Rome in a clear reference to discussions requested by Italy
regarding the ICC arrest warrants against Netanyahu, Gallant and
the Hamas leader.
"We reiterate our commitment to international humanitarian law
and will respect our respective obligations.
"We emphasize that there can be no equivalence between the
terrorist group Hamas and the State of Israel".
