The deputy president of the Italian
Bishops Conference (CEI), Mons. Francesco Savino told ANSA on
Sunday that migrants are not "packages" and warned against a
"clash between powers".
"Migrants are brothers and sisters with their dignity, not
packages to be shoved from one place to another", he said.
"As a citizen and pastor I warn against a clash of powers", said
the deputy president of CEI, one day after a Rome court ruling
not validating the detention of migrants at a newly opened
Italian-run processing centre in Albania was slammed by leading
government members who accused the judiciary of "overstepping
boundaries".
"I am convinced that when powers don't respect each other, the
heart of democracy is at risk", he said.
