Finance police have seized an additional 100,000 euros, money that allegedly stems from bribes, from the home of the former general manager of State-owned company Sogei, Paolino Iorio, investigative sources said on Friday.
Iorio told police he was keeping the money at home after his arrest on Monday night on corruption charges while he was allegedly being illicitly paid 15,000 euros by a manager in relation to a contract, the sources said.
Rome prosecutors have requested that the former general manager be moved from house arrest to detention in prison for allegedly cancelling videos from the last 15 days made by the security cameras he has at home.
Iorio was arrested on Monday night together with a manager, who was allegedly paying him a 15,000-euro bribe, as part of an investigation coordinated by Rome prosecutors on corruption and auction rigging charges over a series of public contracts which concern Sogei and the ministries of defence and interior.
During a vast search operation carried out on Tuesday by finance police which involved the 18 people under investigation over calls for tender by Sogei and the defence and interior ministries, investigators said they found "a huge quantity of documents and data".
The managers under investigation include Andrea Stroppa, 30, who is Elon Musk's "contact in Italy", investigators said.
