The general manager of State-owned company Sogei, Paolino Iorio, who was arrested Monday as part of a major graft probe allegedly received bribes for over 100,000 euros, according to Rome prosecutors.
State attorneys requested the validation of his arrest on Wednesday.
Iorio was arrested on Monday night together with a manager, who was allegedly paying him a 15,000-euro bribe, as part of an investigation coordinated by Rome prosecutors on corruption and auction rigging charges over a series of public contracts which concern Sogei and the ministries of defence and interior.
During a vast search operation carried out on Tuesday by finance police which involved the 18 people under investigation over calls for tender by Sogei and the defence and interior ministries, investigators found "a huge quantity of documents and data", sources close to the probe said Wednesday.
The managers under investigation include Andrea Stroppa, 30, who is Elon Musk's "contact in Italy", investigators said.
Finance police seized Stroppa's electronic devices which will be analysed along with the rest of the material, the sources added.
