Medical school admission tests have
been scrapped as part of a draft reform presented Wednesday to
the Senate granting free access to the first semester after
which only students who have completed all tests will be ranked
nationally with top students allowed to continue their studies.
The cabinet hopes to introduce the measure presented by the
president of the education committee, Roberto Marti, and the
president of the health committee, Francesco Zaffini, for the
2025-2026 academic year if it is approved by Parliament on time.
The places available nationally for medical students will be
25,000 from the current 20,000.
The new measure, which also applies to dentistry and veterinary
medicine, will allow students who have not been admitted to the
second semester to use their credits for another degree without
losing the academic year.
The draft legislation was approved by the Senate's education
committee.
It now needs a green light from the Senate and the Lower House.
