Defence Minister Guido Crosetto said
Thursday that Israel may have committed war crimes by attacking
the UNIFIL mission in Lebanon, adding that there could be no
justification.
"The hostile acts carried out and repeated by the Israeli forces
could constitute war crimes," Crosetto, who summoned the Israeli
ambassador to Rome earlier in the day, told a news conference at
the premier's office in Rome.
"These are extremely serious violations of the norms of
international law, not justified by any military reason.
"There is no justification in saying that the Israeli armed
forces had warned UNIFIL that some bases had to be vacated.
"I told the ambassador to tell the Israeli government that the
United Nations and Italy cannot take orders from the Israeli
government".
Crosetto said Italian vehicles and security cameras were hit in
the attack, but no Italians were hurt.
