A 25-year-old Venetian barista found
dead on a river Piave island on July 2 was killed by one or more
blow to the head after taking part in an Amazonian spiritual
shamanistic rite featuring the consumption of the powerful
psychedelic ayahuasca, whose use is becoming increasingly
popular among hipsters worldwide, an autopsy said Friday.
Alex Marangon, from Marcon near Venice, was initially thought to
have drowned in the Piave, or to have succumbed to a drug
overdose.
The autopsy found that the body of the young man, who had taken
ayahuasca before, presented "numerous wounds to the head, caused
in all likelihood by a blunt object".
