(ANSA) - ROME, DEC 18 - The Treviso health authority has
reported that a 55-year-old man who lives in the province and
recently returned from a trip to the Democratic Republic of
Congo, which has been hit by a mysterious fatal disease, has
died with fever and hemorrhaging.
The Veneto Region government said it has begun investigations to
understand the origin of the illness in collaboration with
Rome's Spallanzani hospital, which specializes in infections
diseases.
The only person the dead man is known to have had contact with
since returning from the trip has been ordered to go into
isolation at home.
Congo's Ministry of Health has said the mystery disease is a
severe form of malaria, but the World Health Organization has
said the cause has not yet been established and laboratory tests
are ongoing. (ANSA).
