(ANSA) - ROME, DEC 16 - Italian athlete Daisy Osakue has
denounced that she was stopped and checked at a store in Turin
because she is black.
"There were so many people and they stopped me, they blocked me
suddenly as if I were stealing the whole store - it bothers me,
it bothers me a lot", said the Olympic champion, who lives at
Moncalieri near Turin.
The online edition of Turin daily La Stampa reported about a
post on Instagram in which she also said: "I was stopped at an
Apple store in Turin - they thought I was stealing because I am
black".
In 2018, Osakue said she was attacked at Moncalieri because she
was black.
The athlete, who was born in Turin to Nigerian parents, was hit
in the face by an egg hurled from a car at Moncalieri.
She was taken with Turin's Oftalmico eye hospital with an
injured cornea.
"They did it on purpose," Osakue said at the time.
"They didn't want to hit me, as Daisy, they wanted to hit me as
a young woman of colour". (ANSA).
