(ANSA) - ROME, DEC 16 - Italy's population continued to age in 2023, so much so that it had almost six over-65s for every child under six last year, Istat said in a report on Monday.
    To be precise, the ratio was 5.8 elderly people for every small child, up from 5.6 in 2022 and 3.8 in 2011.
    The national statistics agency said the average age of the population rose to 46.6 years in 2023, up by 0.2% on 2022.
    It said the average age was 48 for women and 45.2 for men in Italy. (ANSA).
