(ANSA) - ROME, DEC 14 - The Italian Federation of Newspaper
Publishers (FIEG) is appealing to parliament to boost support
for the press, accusing the government of ignoring the sector's
needs in the 2025 budget law.
"The government is turning a deaf ear to any initiatives to
support pluralism and freedom of the press,' said FIEG president
Andrea Riffeser Monti in the appeal, which will be published in
Italian dailies and magazines.
"We cannot fail to take note of the government taking flight
when it comes to any concrete initiative to support quality,
professional news coverage.
"Such disconcerting behaviour jeopardises the jobs of hundreds
of journalists and thousands of employees of our companies, as
well as undermining the citizens' right to be informed". (ANSA).
