(ANSA) - ROME, DEC 11 - Pope Francis said at the end of his
weekly general audience on Wednesday that he hoped a political
solution could be reached in Syria after the ouster of former
president Bashar al-Assad's regime, promoting stability and
unity in the country.
"I am following what is going on in Syria at this delicate time
in its history", the pontiff noted.
"I hope a political solution is reached, without further
conflicts and divisions, to responsibly promote the country's
stability and unity".
The pope also said he would pray for "the Syrian people to be
able to live in peace and security in their beloved land".
He then called for different religions to be able "to walk
together in friendship and reciprocal respect for the good of
that nation afflicted by war for many years". (ANSA).
