(ANSA) - ROME, DEC 11 - Carabinieri police coordinated by the
State attorney's office in Prato probing the deadly explosion of
an Eni fuel depot at Calenzano have searched the facility near
Florence as well as the Sergen company in Potenza tasked with
maintenance work, according to media reports on Tuesday.
Two of the five victims of the blast, Gerardo Pepe and Franco
Cirelli who died with three tanker truck drivers at the facility
on Monday, worked for Sergen.
The State attorney's office in Prato, which has jurisdiction
over the area of Calenzano, is reportedly looking into charges
of manslaughter, disaster and "removal of culpable omission of
safeguards against injuries on the job".
Nobody has been officially placed under investigation yet, the
reports said.
According to Rome daily La Repubblica, the search warrant issued
by prosecutors stated that Sergen was carrying out maintenance
work near the fuel loading area, which has 10 platforms, where
the blast occurred.
The same newspaper also reported that, two months ago, tanker
truck driver Vincenzo Martinelli, who died in the explosion
together with colleagues Carmelo Corso and Davide Baronti, had
denounced "constant anomalies" on the job in a letter to his
company BT transport, responding to disciplinary measures
against him opened by the firm after he refused to complete a
trip. (ANSA).
