(ANSA) - ROME, DEC 8 - Syrian rebels are looking for men from
deposed dictator Bashar al-Assad's regime in foreign embassies
in Damascus including the Italian one, the Farnesina (foreign
ministry) said Sunday saying that its ambassador and diplomatic
staff were in another safe place.
A group of militiamen among those present since last night in
Damascus entered the residence of the Italian ambassador where
they carried out a sort of reconnaissance, the Farnesina
announced.
The Farnesina is managing the situation with contacts with
allied countries to guarantee the safety of the staff and the
protection of its diplomatic offices.
The militiamen are also carrying out searches in embassies and
in the offices of international NGOs presumably to verify the
presence of leaders of the regime on the run (ANSA).
