(ANSA) - ROME, NOV 14 - Russia's customs service on Thursday
said a 30-year-old Italian citizen had been detained at the
border with Latvia after officers found him to be in possession
of 170 grams of hashish.
The arrest of the man, whose identity has not been released,
dates back to September and the case is being followed by the
Italian consulate in Saint Petersburg, well-informed sources
said.
The man has been charged with smuggling a large quantity of
drugs based on article 229.1 of the criminal code and risks up
to 20 years in jail if convicted.
The Italian national was arrested while he was at the border
crossing of Ubylinka, the customs service said via Telegam.
His bags were searched and officials found a box containing
dried fruits and inside it the hashish. (ANSA).
