(ANSA) - ROME, NOV 10 - Deputy Premier and Transport Minister
Matteo Salvini, leader of the League party, said on Sunday that
leftist and anarchist squats should be closed during a rally
near Perugia ahead of regional elections scheduled to take place
in Umbria on November 17 and 18.
"Shameful and unacceptable images yesterday in Milan and
Bologna, we must close these squats occupied by Communists and I
will ask (Interior Minister Matteo) Piantedosi today to do so",
said Salvini in Bettona near Perugia, speaking about
demonstrations held Saturday in the two northern cities
The demonstration in Bologna saw members of left-wing
collectives clash with police as they were protesting against a
rally held nearby by far-right activists of the Casa Pound and
Rete dei Patrioti organizations.
In Milan, some pro-Pal protesters at a demonstration expressed
support for youths in Amsterdam who attacked Israeli football
fans this week in clashes that Dutch authorities described as
antisemitic.
"I will ask for an inspection of all left-wing squats that are
illegally occupied because they are a den of criminals", stated
Salvini. (ANSA).
