(ANSA) - ROME, NOV 28 - Premier Giorgia Meloni told trade
unions on Tuesday that the government was working to "fix" an
article in its 2024 budget bill that will cut the State pensions
of 732,000 public-sector workers over 20 years, including 55,600
doctors.
The measure is part of the reason unions have been protesting
against the package, with doctor associations especially angry
about it.
"We are working to modify the measure in the best possible way,"
she said.
The premier said the government would make sure people who
return purely on the basis of age are not penalized and
guarantee that there is no penalty for people who meet the
current requirements, which can also depend on the number of
years of social-security contributions, by December 31.
"This is for everyone, not only for the health sector;" she
said.
"For the health sector, an additional protection mechanism is
being considered to reduce the penalty when one approaches the
age for old-age pension. We will do our best to solve and
correct this" (ANSA).
