(ANSA) - ROME, NOV 28 - Rome's getting just 17 votes in the
Expo 2030 final with Riyadh running out a comfortable winner to
host the event with 119 was a "bad defeat and we're very
disappointed," Rome Mayor Roberto Gualtieri said after the
decision at the BIE in Paris Tuesday.
Replying to reporters at the end of the BIE delegates' meeting
in Issy-Les-Molineaux, on the outskirts of Paris, he said "one
must sportingly accept defeat'.
Riyadh's was a "crushing victory" said the first citizen of the
Italian capital, stressing however that Rome's bid was "a
beautiful project".
South Korea's second city Busan came second with 29 votes.
